Upcoming Oxfam meeting April 4th

Hello Oxfam organizers!

Come join us for our next meeting on Thursday, April 4th from 7:00-8:00pm at 65 W. Girard Ave. We have a couple of exciting new plans to discuss!

APRIL 4th AGENDA
1) The Salt Lake Downtown Farmer's Market is coming up and we need to schedule volunteers to staff the table for a few Saturdays this summer.

2) Also, we'd like to talk about hosting a screening of Girl Rising sometime in the next couple of months. It's a great new documentary about girl's education; check out the trailer if you haven't seen it yet! We've talked to the production company, and they said that they would love to have Oxfam use Girl Rising for one of our fundraisers. While there is a minimal charge for our use of the film, we are allowed to charge a ticket price to cover the screening cost and donate proceeds to Oxfam. At the meeting, I'd like to hear your thoughts about whether we should do the screening in a public theater, or on the U of U's campus, or both! The Society for Empowering Women Worldwide (a club on the U of U's campus) has said that they would be interested in sponsoring the screening.

3) We also need to make some assignments for getting sponsors for this fall's Hunger Banquet!

So mark your calendars for Thursday April 4th at 7pm; and bring a friend!

CHANGE Initiative - Apply now!

CHANGE is Oxfam America’s national student leadership program for rising sophomores and juniors. The year long program requires that accepted applicants attend a week-long training in the summer. CHANGE Leaders commit to join or form an Oxfam Club and implement an Oxfam campaign on campus during the 2013-14 academic year. Each year 50 students are selected from the US and around the world.

The 2013 CHANGE training will take place in Boston July 20-26, 2013. All selected students must commit to attending the entire training. Oxfam covers all costs associated with students attending the training; flights, food and lodging during the week in Boston. The leadership training program builds students’ leadership skills, advocacy skills, and familiarity with Oxfam’s mission—and introduces them to sophisticated and powerful models for social change. Founded in 2000, CHANGE has trained more than 680 student leaders from more than 300 colleges and universities. After the training, CHANGE Leaders return to campus energized and ready to work on social justice issues. Oxfam staffers and a CHANGE campus advisor provide guidance to the student activists throughout the year.
